Blood Bowl 2 is one of the games that got me started on Twitch and at the time of writing this I have over 670 hours in game and play games every Monday against people from our community.
One of the most common questions I get about Blood Bowl 2 when streaming is “Which versions should I buy?” and “Is <x> a good price?” so I thought I’d write a Buyers Guide that details the options available for PC/Mac players and the list prices of them so you can make a judgement call which version is right for you and how you’re likely to play.
Blood Bowl 2 Versions
There are two main editions of Blood Bowl 2 currently available for the PC/Mac, the base game alone and the Legendary Edition I’ve shown below what in each version along with the list price (the normal price that each game is listed for by the publisher/developer in official third part stores (Steam/Humble Store).

Blood Bowl 2
The base game of Blood Bowl 2 allows you to play as the Reiklland Reavers in Solo mode as you are tasked with bringing them back to glory in a full story campaign. This is the only single player option in the base game. The campaign is interesting to play through if you haven’t played Blood Bowl on tabletop or in previous games before but, in my view, doesn’t have very much replay value.
In addition to the single player campaign you also get access to eight races from the Warhammer World: Humans, Orcs, Dwarfs, Skaven, High Elves, Dark Elves, Chaos, and the Bretonnians.
These races can be used to create teams to play online with either by rolling against random people in the open Cabalvision leagues or in organised leagues and tournaments, like our own communities Leagues of Destruction.
In my view the base game races are a pretty decent selection of the teams available allowing a lot of very different play styles so if you just want to learn the basics in single player and then play online with friends then this is the best way to start by far.
Verdict
The base game is the best choice for newcomers to Blood Bowl who want to play online with some friends and learn the game with a decent enough selection of teams.
Discounts
There are fairly regular sales on Blood Bowl 2 between the Steam and and Humble Stores. When on sale discounts typically range from 50-80% off the list price of the game. Historically it looks like the discounts tend to come around every 8-12 weeks on one of the stores in one form or another.

Blood Bowl 2 Legendary Edition
The Legendary Edition of Blood Bowl 2 includes the base game, the Blood Bowl 2 Official Expansion and all the additional teams included in the Team Pack. I’ll run through each of these components below.
The Official Expansion
The official expansion brings with it two main components, the expansion itself and eight additional teams. If you are a solo player then the biggest difference here is instead of being limited to playing only as the Reikland Reavers in a story campaign you can use any of the teams you own to play through the Eternal League, this mode is worth the price of admission alone as a solo player.
In addition to the Endless league you also gain access to the Challenge Mode, something I’ve honestly never played and probably should, and eight new teams: Halflings, Ogres, Goblins, Vampires, Amazon, Elven Union, Underworld Denizens and the Kislev Circus.
There are several teams here that I think are a huge amount of fun to play as, in particular I love the Goblins and their supply of Secret Weapons and the completely useless Halflings that make scoring a touchdown feel like you’ve won the Olympics.
The Team Pack
The team pack adds all the available teams that aren’t in the base game and Official Expansion. This adds another eight teams which are Chaos Dwarfs, Khemri, Neromaantic, Nurgle, Undead, Norse, Lizardmen and Wood Elves. The Lizardmen are one of my favourite teams I played on Tabletop.
Verdict
The Legendary Edition is the best choice for solo player and anyone that has to have every team. If you don’t play solo or you don’t want any of the additional teams or only want one or two of the teams that are available separately this maybe isn’t the version for you.
